The success story of the Citroën DS line started on October 5 1955 at the Paris Motor Show with the unveiling of the Citroën DS 19. This car advanced achievable standards in automobile ride quality, handling and braking. Known for its futuristic body design and innovative technology, 12,000 orders were taken on the opening day of the show.
Citroën sold nearly 1.5 million D-series during the model's 20-year production run. The DS came in third in the 1999 Car of the Century competition, recognizing the world's most influential auto designs, and was named the most beautiful car of all time in 2009 by Classic & Sports Car magazine.
In 2009 Citroën resurrected the name DS with the introduction of the Citroën DS3. A chic French supermini with distinctive styling and fantastic handling which was named Top Gear Magazine car of the year 2010. In June 2011 Citroën announced its 100,000th order had been taken.
Swiftly on the heels of DS3 came its big sibling, the Citroën DS4. A high riding, 5 door coupe, the car was voted ‘Most beautiful car in the World’ by over 60,000 web users in 62 Countries. With uncompromising quality and handling the DS4 promises to continue the success of the DS line.
The latest addition to Citroën’s DS line is the phenomenal Citroën DS5 which is available with game changing HYbrid4 technology. The diesel electric hybrid engine produced by PSA Group is the first in the world and it delivers 200bhp; four-wheel drive capability; emission-free electric power for the city; and an acceleration boost function for the open road - with total CO2 emissions of just 99g/km. DS5 is exempt from the 3% benefit-in-kind uplift that applies to conventional diesel powered cars.
