Ranked as a 'Leading Individual' on Trade law by Legal 500 UK, Aline Doussin heads the UK trade team. As a dual-qualified lawyer (Avocat au Barreau de Paris and Solicitor in England and Wales), she divides her time between Paris and London and assists companies on the full range of international trade law and policy issues, including export control, sanctions, anti-money laundering, customs, trade compliance, trade remedies. For years, Aline has regularly  been assisting French clients with supply chain management issue, including customs compliance, and import and export controls. She advises her clients how to monitor the effects of logistical constraints and assess the options available as a result of:

  • delays due to quarantine and port checks and restrictions;
  • revised customs procedures; and
  • delays in obtaining documentation and approvals required for the import/export of goods

Aline also focuses on the EU legal framework for free movement of goods and services, and regularly advises on EU internal market laws, including CE marking obligations and the rules that apply to the placement of products on the EU market. She is a member of Hogan Lovells' Brexit Committee, and sits on the Brexit Committee of the Barreau de Paris. In 2017, she was appointed by the Bâtonnier du Barreau de Paris as a French representative to the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe ("CCBE"). In 2019, she was appointed by the UK Government to the Department of International Trade ("DIT") – Expert Trade Advisory Group.

 

Representative experience

  • Advising a French private investment house on sanctions and export control due-diligence in  the context of its investment decisions in the EU.
  • Assisting a French bank with the application of sanctions laws to specific transactions, compliance training on Russian and Iran Sanctions regimes, and the EU Blocking Regulation.
  • Assisting the French subsidiary of a US technology company with French export control compliance (incl. encryption import and export rules).
  • Secured a significant customs victory for a consumer products manufacturer, against (HMRC) with regards to classification of composite goods.
  • Advised a global pharmaceutical company on Brexit contingency planning, and legal issues arising out of trade barriers re-imposed between the EU and the UK.
