Action Sustainability offers cloud-based reporting to monitor Net Zero progress

The French Chamber’s 2020 Franco-British Business Awards Innovation prize-winner shares the latest update on their sustainability tool.

Action Sustainability’s Sustainability Tool facilitates uniform carbon reporting to help organisations to set new benchmarks and standards to meet their Net Zero targets. The tool was awarded the Innovation prize at the French Chamber’s 2020 Franco-British Business Awards and looks at the entire supply chain: collecting social, environmental and economic data. The tool is designed to mimic any organisation, project or supply chain, enabling businesses to effectively distribute reporting responsibilities amongst stakeholders and then set performance targets for individual suppliers, internal teams, projects and business units.

Once reporting is under way, data can be accessed in real-time through smart dashboards that highlight sustainability indicators in red, amber or green to reflect performance against targets. A version of the tool that specifically looks at the supply chain in the construction sector is in development. With just six or seven pieces of information - such as how much electricity, gas and fuel oil companies are using - the tool will provide an accurate assessment of carbon footprint.

Shaun McCarthy OBE, Director of Action Sustainability told us “With enough supply chain players contributing, we can start to understand the scope of the carbon footprint of the industry, and we can then apportion it using financial proxies. It’s a very different way of considering carbon from input/output models or simply using financial proxies related to a sector to guess what the carbon emissions might be. If we can collect real data about real energy consumption from a supply chain, we can start to encourage organisations to manage it in a better way.”
