Patron & Corporate Advocacy Breakfast: Mobility Matters - A Breakfast Conversation on Trade & Mobility with Ben Douglass-Smith, Deputy Director for Trade in Services, Department for Business, Innovation, Science & Trade
On 29 September, Patron and Corporate members were exclusively invited to attend the inaugural session of the Chamber's Advocacy Breakfast Series.
This session of our Advocacy Breakfast Series, Mobility Matters, brought together members and guests for a discussion on trade and mobility between the UK and France, with Ben Douglass-Smith, Deputy Director for Trade in Services at the Department for Business, Innovation, Science & Trade.
The discussion highlighted the importance of business mobility in supporting cross-border trade, particularly for services, and explored the practical challenges faced by companies operating between the UK and France. Participants considered how current mobility arrangements affect businesses and the importance of keeping mobility at the heart of the wider UK–EU trade relationship.
The session also provided valuable insight into the UK Government’s approach to trade in services, alongside a practical perspective on immigration and business mobility. It underscored that effective mobility arrangements remain an important enabler of cross-border commercial activity.
As part of the French Chamber’s Advocacy programme, the breakfast provided a valuable forum for dialogue between businesses and policymakers, helping to identify key challenges and support a better understanding of the evolving UK–France trading relationship.
