The LVMH Institut des Métiers d’Excellence (IME) vocational training program embarked on a new year today with a ceremony at LVMH headquarters in Paris, welcoming apprentices from France and Switzerland. During the inaugural ceremony the top students from the class of 2017/2018 were presented with a Certificate of Excellence, while new students officially joined the IME. Throughout the ceremony – in the presence of Bernard Arnault, Chairman and CEO of LVMH – presentations recapped highlights from last year and announced new additions to the program for this year.
In 2014, the first class of the LVMH Institut des Métiers d’Excellence counted 28 apprentices. Five graduating classes later the program has expanded to 500 students. This impressive growth reflects the multiplication and development of training tracks and partnerships offered by the IME in France, Switzerland and Italy. All the IME courses are centered on promoting, transmitting and valorizing savoir-faire in craftsmanship, creative and retail skills for the luxury industry.
The results for 2017 speak eloquently of the program’s success in driving international development, expanding the curriculum and training more and more apprentices. “We are delighted that the Institut des Métiers d’Excellence has inspired more than 500 young apprentices to train for careers requiring craftsmanship, creative and retail skills. This illustrates the strength of the IME’s unique work/study model. We are pleased that this model is continually expanding in France and other countries where there is an attractive pool of potential talent and where LVMH is present,” said Chantal Gaemperle, LVMH Executive Vice President Human Resources and Synergies.
Four new IME training programs were launched in 2017:
In France:
- Master in Design, fashion and creative industries, in partnership with Université Sorbonne Nouvelle – Paris 3, École Duperré Paris
- Client Advisor retail training, taught entirely in English, with EIML Paris.
In Italy:
- Leathers goods craftsmanship with Polimoda (Florence)
- Jewelry with For.Al (Valence).
The results for the 2017/2018 graduating class were excellent: 98% of the apprentices received their degree, and 83% were awarded the Certificate of Excellence. This certificate recognizes apprentices who demonstrated exemplary professionalism and excellence in both their area of expertise, their soft skills, and their affinity with the luxury industry. The placement rate is 80%, either in jobs in the métiers studied or ongoing training to perfect initial skills. Some 60% of the graduates have found jobs with LVMH or its outside partners.
The ceremony also provided an opportunity for the LVMH Institut des Métiers d’Excellence to announce several new partnerships:
- Centre Européen des Professions Culinaires in Paris in baking, pastry, cooking and catering;
- Politecnico Calzaturiero in Capriccio di Vigonza (Veneto region) in women’s shoes;
- Académie du Savoir-faire Berluti in Ferrare (Emilia Romagna region) in men’s shoes;
- Università Ca’Foscari Venezia in Venice, with the Master in Luxury, Customer Advisor retail sales program, organized by the Ca’Foscari Challenge School and taught entirely in English.
Following launches in France in 2014 and in Switzerland in 2016, the LVMH Institut des Métiers d’Excellence inaugurated its Italian headquarters at the Palazzo Pucci in Florence in November 2017. This expansion establishes the LVMH Institut des Métiers d’Excellence as the only European network of vocational schools specialized in craftsmanship, creative and retail skills, spanning from fashion, leather goods, shoes, watchmaking, jewelry, winemaking to the culinary arts.
