Jean PrudhommeFrench Defence Equipment Attaché in the UK, French Embassy

Colonel (Armament) Jean Prudhomme was appointed Defence Equipment Attaché at the Embassy of France in the United Kingdom in September 2022.

After graduating from École polytechnique (Paris) then from École nationale supérieure de techniques avancées (Paris) in 2005, he joined the French Directorate-General for Armaments (DGA) and began his engineer career in the French Navy In-Service Support directorate, working on the maintenance of French nuclear submarines in their Brittany naval base.

From 2010 to 2013, he was appointed deputy programme director for the Barracuda-class nuclear-propelled attack submarines, responsible for the platform and combat system of the submarines. He then became programme director for the mid-life upgrade of French nuclear-propelled strategic submarines of the deterrence force until 2017, when he was appointed programme director for the replacement of the Logistic Support Ships of the French Navy.

In that position, he set up the governmental Arrangements with Italy, negotiated the ships’ realisation contract and placed this cooperation programme within the Organisation Conjointe de Coopération en matière d’Armement (OCCAR), a multinational organisation based in Bonn, Germany.

In 2019, he became Head of the Technical Division of the French Navy In-Service Support directorate, and as such he was in charge of the technical performance of the whole Fleet maintenance.

In his current position, Jean Prudhomme is the representative in the UK of the Délégué Général pour l’Armement, French counterpart of the British Minister for Defence Procurement and Industry. He supports the Ambassador of France and the Defence Attaché in fostering cooperation in the armament sector.

Jean Prudhomme is a knight of the French Ordre national du Mérite. He is married and has four children.
